**Dr. Dre Faces $10 Million Lawsuit from Former Marriage Counselor Over Alleged Harassment**
In a shocking turn of events, hip-hop legend Dr. Dre, legally known as Andre Young, is facing a $10 million lawsuit from his former marriage counselor, Dr. Charles Sophy. Dr. Sophy has accused Dr. Dre of harassment, stalking, and threats severe enough to force the therapist to wear a bulletproof vest when leaving his house.
The allegations surfaced in a complaint filed this week in Los Angeles Superior Court and obtained by Entertainment Weekly. Sophy’s legal team highlighted the severity of the situation, stating, "Nobody, absolutely nobody, should ever be subjected to this type of abusive, tormenting conduct, especially when the person being subjected to those threats and unbearable harassment is the doctor who had worked diligently to help treat this individual."
Dr. Dre, however, refutes these claims. In his statement to Entertainment Weekly, he counters that Dr. Sophy has acted unprofessionally, accusing him of "dereliction of duties and incredible incompetence," particularly in his dealings with Dr. Dre’s children. These allegations stem from Dr. Sophy's role as a marriage counselor to Dr. Dre and his then-wife, Nicole Threatt, from 2018 until their divorce proceedings concluded in 2021.
The complaint details a disturbing series of events starting more than a year after the divorce was finalized. Dr. Sophy alleges that Dr. Dre engaged in a nearly year-long campaign of intimidation through late-night texts laced with threats, homophobic rhetoric, and plain abuse. The complaint includes exhibits of these text messages, which Dr. Dre allegedly sent throughout 2023.
Among the texts are excerpts from February 16, 2023, notably, "You're going to have to pay for that," followed by other abusive messages. Given Dr. Dre's past accusations of abusive behavior by women such as journalist Dee Barnes and musician Tairrie B. Murphy, Dr. Sophy claims he had a reasonable fear for his safety.
In a counter-move, Dr. Dre’s legal team has stated that Dr. Sophy filed the lawsuit in retaliation to an earlier complaint made by Dr. Dre to the Osteopathic Medical Board of California. This complaint accused Dr. Sophy of serious ethical violations during the couple's divorce proceedings.
Dr. Dre's lawyer, Howard King, alleges that Dr. Sophy acted unethically by encouraging the couple's children to take sides in the divorce, even coaxing one child to publicize false claims to secure a financial settlement. Dr. Sophy’s attorney, Christopher Frost, has emphasized that Dr. Dre’s behavior is the primary issue, labeling the rapper's actions as "unacceptable" and indicative of a troubling pattern.
As the legal contest ensues, the Osteopathic Medical Board of California has yet to comment on the status of Dr. Dre’s complaint. The clash between these two prominent figures continues to escalate, with Dr. Sophy seeking substantial damages alongside legal fees.
