Colorado Springs police have identified the two victims in a double homicide that occurred at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) on Friday, February 16, 2024. The victims have been named as 26-year-old Celie Montgomery from Pueblo, CO and 24-year-old Samuel Knopp from Parker, CO.
The authorities received a call about shots fired at the Crestone House dormitory on campus, and upon investigation, found the two adults deceased in a dorm room. Celie Montgomery was not a registered student at UCCS, whereas Samuel Knopp was a current student at the university.
The deaths of Celie Montgomery and Samuel Knopp are being treated as homicides, as confirmed by The El Paso County Coroner's Office, which conducted autopsies on Saturday, February 17, 2024. The investigation led by the CSPD Homicide Unit is ongoing, focusing on known parties involved in what appears to be an isolated incident, rather than a random attack against the school or other students at the university.
Maintaining respect for the victims and their families, the authorities have limited the release of information to the public within the first 48 hours of the investigation. Detectives are actively pursuing leads and suspect information while ensuring campus safety measures are in place.
This incident marks the third and fourth homicides in Colorado Springs this year, compared to two at the same point last year. The public is urged to contact the Colorado Springs Police Department at (719) 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at (719) 634-STOP (7867) with any information or if they were witnesses to the incident.
