In a minor setback for the Miami Dolphins, wide receiver Tyreek Hill was seen sporting a brace on his right hand during Tuesday's practice. However, the team's head coach, Mike McDaniel, expressed that the injury is not too serious and Hill could still participate in practice.
Speaking at a press conference before a joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday, McDaniel revealed that Hill is currently nursing a thumb injury. While Hill is physically capable of partaking in practice sessions, the timing of his injury and the need to prioritize his long-term health have led the coaching staff to err on the side of caution.
"Tyreek could practice today. However, there's also times that, because of the timing of where their bodies are at, kind of puts them at risk to get further injury," said McDaniel. "From a medical standpoint, you're just trying to let something cool down so you don't have something happen at the expense of regular-season games. So, he's been very active, but we're trying to make sure... we keep him out of harm's way."
Although Hill will be present during practice, he will be limited in his participation in team drills to minimize any potential aggravation to his thumb injury. The medical staff is taking a cautious approach to ensure he stays healthy for the regular-season games.
The Dolphins are currently in Tampa Bay for joint practices with the Buccaneers before their preseason game scheduled for Friday night. McDaniel confirmed that some of the team's starters will see playing time during the game, but not all of them.
While Hill's presence on the field may be limited for the time being, his involvement in practice signals a positive sign that his injury is not a significant concern. The Dolphins coaching staff will continue to monitor Hill's progress and take all necessary measures to ensure his full recovery and readiness for the upcoming regular season.
As the preseason carries on, the Dolphins remain optimistic about the team's overall health and are determined to field their strongest lineup once the regular season begins.
