In a disappointing setback for the Los Angeles Dodgers, All-Star right-hander Tyler Glasnow has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to back tightness. The 30-year-old pitcher, who has been an integral part of the Dodgers' lineup this season, boasts an impressive 8-5 record with a 3.47 ERA.
Glasnow's back issue arose while playing catch over the weekend, according to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. However, Roberts remains optimistic about Glasnow's return, stating that he should be back in action sometime after the All-Star break.
The star pitcher has made a significant impact this season, leading the major leagues with an impressive 143 strikeouts. This makes Glasnow's strikeout total the highest in Dodgers history before the All-Star Game since Clayton Kershaw's record of 159 strikeouts in 2017. Additionally, Glasnow's 11.81 strikeouts per nine innings rank as the second-best in baseball.
Known for his fiery fastball that reaches the upper 90s, as well as his devastating curveball and slider, Glasnow is widely recognized for possessing one of the best pitching repertoires in baseball. However, his career has been plagued by a series of injuries.
Following Glasnow's injury, the Dodgers now have a total of six All-Stars representing the team. Catcher Will Smith, first baseman Freddie Freeman, outfielder Teoscar Hernández, and injured shortstop Mookie Betts have all joined starting designated hitter Shohei Ohtani on the National League roster.
To fill the void left by Glasnow's absence, the Dodgers have recalled right-handed pitcher Michael Petersen from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Petersen will be looking to seize this opportunity and contribute to the team's success.
As the Dodgers forge ahead without Glasnow, they will be eagerly anticipating his return following the All-Star break. The team will undoubtedly miss his dominance on the mound, but they remain confident in their ability to continue competing at the highest level.
