In an important development for Disneyland Resort, a tentative contract agreement has been reached between the Master Services Council and Disney Workers Rising, effectively preventing a potential strike by 14,000 workers. The agreement comes after two additional days of bargaining were scheduled on Monday and Tuesday.
The workers, consisting of custodians, ride operators, candy makers, merchandise clerks, and more, play vital roles at Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, Downtown Disney, and the Disney hotels in Anaheim. Earlier, they had voted to authorize their bargaining unit, Disney Workers Rising, to call for a strike if an agreement was not reached.
Expressing their satisfaction over the negotiation outcome, the Disney Workers Rising Bargaining Committee stated in a released statement, "We are proud to announce we have reached a tentative agreement with Disney that we will recommend to our fellow cast members. Cast members have fought hard for the past four months, and this tentative agreement would not have been possible without the strength we all showed throughout this process and the unwavering support from guests and community members."
The committee further added, "We have shown Disney that we are the true magic makers of the park, and today proves that when workers stand together for what they deserve, we win. We look forward to making our voices heard during the voting process to ratify this contract."
Jessica Good, spokesperson for Disneyland Resort, emphasized their concern for the wellbeing of the cast members and expressed satisfaction with the tentative agreement. She stated, "We care deeply about the wellbeing of our cast members and are pleased to have reached a tentative agreement with Master Services Council that addresses what matters most to our cast while positioning Disneyland Resort for future growth and job creation."
The members of the bargaining unit are scheduled to vote on the contract on July 29, after which the details of the new contract will be shared publicly. The negotiations between the bargaining unit and Disney began on April 24, 2024, with the goal of achieving higher wages, a fair attendance policy, seniority increases, and ensuring safe parks for cast members and guests.
As the contract for cast members at Disneyland expired on June 16, 2024, this agreement comes as a relief, ensuring a harmonious and productive work environment. The contract for Disney California Adventure and Downtown Disney cast members will expire on September 30, 2024.
