Disney has recently revealed its plans to develop a new residential community in Chatham County, called Asteria. Spanning across a vast 1,500-acre area, Asteria will consist of 4,000 single-family and multi-family homes, targeting a diverse range of residents including those aged 55 and older. The project is currently in the early stages of development, with home sales expected to commence by 2027.

The announcement of the Asteria community marks Disney's expansion of their branded communities to the East Coast, building upon the success of their first Storyliving by Disney community in California. Claire Bilby, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Disney Signature Experiences Emerging Businesses, expressed excitement about the project, stating, "Our team has been working closely with Disney Imagineers to develop a unique vision for this project inspired by Walt Disney's innate curiosity and North Carolina's spirit of discovery."

Collaborating with Walt Disney Imagineering and Scottsdale-based DMB Development, Asteria is part of the larger Chatham Park master-planned community by Preston Development Company. Julian "Bubba" Rawl, co-founder of Preston Development Company, believes Asteria will contribute to the ongoing innovation in growth and thoughtful planning witnessed in Chatham Park over the past 15 years. Rawl stated, "We're incredibly fortunate to work with Disney, DMB Development, and homebuilders to create something truly special."

Aside from its housing options, Asteria will offer an array of amenities aimed at providing residents with a unique lifestyle. Accompanying parks, a clubhouse, and a trail system, the community will feature enrichment programming by Disney, including storytelling dinners inspired by Disney tales, lessons with Disney artists, and family fun days with themed activities.

Brent Herrington, CEO of DMB Development, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration with Disney, highlighting the importance of integrating North Carolina's rich landscape and history into the project's planning. Asteria will be the second announced Storyliving by Disney community in the United States, following the Cotino community in Rancho Mirage, California, which is currently under development.

While pre-sales appointments for homebuying in the Cotino community are already in progress, more Storyliving by Disney locations are being explored for future development. Disney's Asteria community aims to offer a distinctive lifestyle to its residents, combining the magic of Disney's placemaking with the natural beauty of Chatham County. The community will provide a variety of home styles, surrounded by open green spaces, neighborhood parks, and miles of walking and biking trails to encourage exploration and a connection with the outdoors.
