### Apple Releases First Public Betas of iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2

Apple has unveiled the initial public betas for its iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2 updates, giving the public a chance to test out new features prior to their official release. These public betas were made available a few days following the second beta release to developers. Users interested in participating can download these updates from the Settings app after registering through Apple's public beta testing website.

A standout feature in these updates is the introduction of Apple Intelligence, which includes innovative functionalities such as image generation. One notable addition is the Image Playground app, designed for creating images from text descriptions. The app supports various suggestions like costumes and locations, and even allows users to create characters resembling their friends and family by using reference photos. Image Playground offers both preview options and a change history for easy editing. Furthermore, this app is integrated into other services like Messages, Notes, and Freeform, though it focuses on animation and illustration rather than photorealistic imagery.

Another interesting feature is Genmoji, which lets users craft customizable emoji characters based on descriptions and phrases. Similar to Image Playground, Genmoji can also use data from the People album in Photos to create likenesses of friends and family. For now, Genmoji is only available on iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 but will come to macOS Sequoia in the future.

In terms of smart assistance, Siri receives a significant upgrade with ChatGPT integration. If Siri cannot answer a query, it will pass the request to ChatGPT for a response, given user permission. This integration does not require a separate account and ensures that neither Apple nor OpenAI stores the requests.

Another exciting development in iOS 18.2 for iPhone 16 users is the Visual Intelligence feature, which provides information about surroundings when the camera is pointed at objects or places, such as restaurant reviews and searchable item details. This feature can also read text aloud, recognize phone numbers and addresses, and summarize passages.

Additionally, Apple has refined its Writing Tools introduced in iOS 18.1 to offer more flexible options for changing tone or content, such as adding action words or transforming an email into a poem. The updates extend support for localized English across several countries including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, and the UK, in addition to the U.S.

For those already testing Apple Intelligence features, access to Writing Tools, ChatGPT integration, and Visual Intelligence will be automatic. However, to use Genmoji, Image Playground, or Image Wand early, users need to join a secondary waiting list and will receive notifications upon availability.

Apple highlights that these new features are still in development and may produce unexpected results. Feedback is being collected to improve the tools over time. The company plans to officially release iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, macOS Sequoia 15.2, watchOS 11.2, tvOS 18.2, and visionOS 2.2 by early December.
