### All-Pro Center Frank Ragnow Announces Retirement at 29

In a surprising turn of events for the Detroit Lions, All-Pro center Frank Ragnow has announced his retirement from the NFL at the age of 29. This news comes directly from Ragnow, who made his decision public on Instagram on Monday afternoon.

Ragnow stated that the recent months have been particularly challenging for him as he came to terms with the end of his football career. "I've tried to convince myself that I'm feeling good but I'm not, and it's time to prioritize my health and my family's future," he shared. In his heartfelt message, Ragnow expressed deep gratitude to the Lions organization and the fans, saying it was an honor to compete for them.

This announcement is a significant blow to the Lions, who had a stellar 15-2 season before their unexpected playoff exit at the hands of the Commanders in the divisional round. Ragnow's decision to retire is mainly attributed to health issues, particularly his ongoing struggles with toe injuries.

Throughout his career, the four-time Pro Bowler has had several injury setbacks. In 2021, Ragnow missed 13 games due to a severe case of turf toe. The following year, he sustained another injury to the same toe but managed to play through the pain. By 2023, Ragnow realized that his toe injury had escalated to a point where surgery was no longer a viable option, forcing him to manage the condition for the rest of his career.

Despite his injuries, Ragnow’s performance remained commendable. He only missed one game last season—a Week 4 matchup against the Seahawks due to a partially torn pectoral muscle. After that, he played 16 games and was named to the Pro Bowl for the third consecutive year.

Drafted by the Lions in the first round, No. 20 overall, of the 2018 NFL Draft from Arkansas, Ragnow spent his entire seven-year career in Detroit. His departure marks the end of an era for the team, who now face the challenge of filling the significant void left by one of their most consistent and impactful players.
