In a recent incident, a Delta Airlines flight was forced to return to John F Kennedy Airport in New York after an emergency slide billowed out from above one wing shortly after take-off. The Boeing plane, bound for Los Angeles with 176 passengers, two pilots, and five cabin crew on board, landed safely back at the airport around 8.35 am.

The emergency situation arose when cabin crew noticed a "flight deck indication related to the right wing emergency exit slide, as well as a non-routine sound from near the right wing," said Delta Airlines. The airline promptly declared an emergency, ensuring the safety of those on board.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has initiated an investigation into the incident, as cabin crew reported experiencing a vibration. This occurrence adds to the growing list of issues plaguing Boeing's aircraft, with increased scrutiny on the company's operations. The FAA is currently looking into other matters related to tyres, cabin pressure, and engine or mechanical problems.

Delta Airlines confirmed that the affected aircraft, a Boeing 767-300ER, has been taken out of service. "As nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people, Delta flight crews enacted their extensive training and followed procedures to return to JFK," stated a Delta Airlines spokesperson. The airline expressed appreciation for the professionalism of its crew and the patience of the passengers due to the delay caused by the incident.

Boeing, the manufacturer of the aircraft, deferred to Delta Airlines for a statement regarding the incident. However, the company did mention that the plane involved in the incident was 33 years old. The recent resignation of Boeing's CEO and two other executives, combined with a $355 million loss for the first quarter, reflect the company's prioritization of repairs and safety concerns.

It is essential to address these issues promptly to ensure the continued safety of air travel. The FAA's investigation aims to uncover the root causes of these incidents, holding airlines and manufacturers accountable for any negligence. Passengers and industry experts will be keenly awaiting the conclusions and subsequent actions taken by the authorities to maintain the integrity and safety of the aviation industry.
