**David Lynch Opens Up About Emphysema Battle and Continued Filmmaking Ambitions**

Renowned filmmaker David Lynch recently disclosed that his severe emphysema condition has confined him to his home, rendering him unable to physically direct projects. Lynch, who is now 78, was initially diagnosed with the chronic lung disease back in 2000. In a candid interview with People magazine, he shared that he currently relies on supplemental oxygen for any activity more strenuous than walking across a room.

"I can hardly walk across a room. It's like you're walking around with a plastic bag around your head," Lynch revealed. He detailed how his longstanding smoking habit caught up with him, leading to his diagnosis of emphysema in 2020. Despite the grim diagnosis, Lynch continued smoking for another two years until it became nearly impossible for him to move without gasping for air. "I saw the writing on the wall, and it said, 'You're going to die in a week if you don't stop,' Lynch noted. “Quitting was my only choice.”

The filmmaker also mentioned that his condition makes him more susceptible to other respiratory illnesses, necessitating a permanent life inside his home. Despite these severe constraints, Lynch expressed no regrets about his smoking past. "I don't regret it. It was important to me," he stated. However, he did urge current smokers to consider his situation as a cautionary tale, emphasizing the importance of quitting. "I really wanted to get this across: Think about it. You can quit these things that are going to end up killing you. I owe it to them - and to myself - to say that."

Although Lynch’s health has imposed significant limitations, he has no intention of retiring from his passion for filmmaking. He hopes to continue directing remotely. His last major project was the highly acclaimed "Twin Peaks: The Return" in 2017. Earlier this year, he collaborated with Chrystabell on an album called "Cellophane Memories," which included several music videos directed by Lynch.
