In preparation for their highly anticipated Week 1 matchup against the Cleveland Browns, the Dallas Cowboys have solidified their practice squad, making key moves that will shape their depth chart for the 2024 NFL season. With the ability to carry up to 17 players this year, the Cowboys have taken advantage of the International Pathway Program (IPP) exemption to include undrafted rookie free agent Denzel Daxon on their practice squad, alongside Isaac Alarcón, who has been on the squad since 2020.
As anticipated, the majority of this year's practice squad for the Cowboys consists of players who were either waived during the recent cutdowns and cleared waivers or released vested veterans not subject to waivers. Additionally, the team has added some veteran leadership to the mix, namely Dalvin Cook and Carl Lawson. While Cook's inclusion is unofficial at this stage, it is expected that he will join the practice squad. On the other hand, Lawson's participation is confirmed, and he can immediately begin practicing with the team after being released during the cutdown period.
It is important to note that practice squad players can be elevated to the gameday roster up to three times. However, on the third elevation, they must either be moved to the active roster or be waived or released, depending on the number of seasons they have played in the NFL. If a player has accrued four or more seasons, they are considered vested.
Although the practice squad is not yet finalized and subject to potential changes, several deals have been officially locked in by the Dallas Cowboys. The following is a list of players who will be available for the team to elevate to the main roster when the need arises:
1. Denzel Daxon (IPP Exemption)
2. Isaac Alarcón
3. Dalvin Cook (unofficial)
4. Carl Lawson
These players will provide crucial depth and contribute to the Cowboys' main roster when ready. The practice squad acts as a valuable resource for teams to develop and support their players, ensuring that they are well-prepared for game day challenges.
As the Cowboys gear up for an exciting season, fans eagerly await the first kickoff against the Cleveland Browns. With a talented main roster and a promising practice squad, Dallas is poised to make their mark on the upcoming NFL campaign.
