Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has been making waves in fantasy football circles as he heads into the 2024 season. Despite concerns about a walking boot injury earlier this summer, Prescott has been given a clean bill of health and is poised for another impressive campaign.
Last season, Prescott finished as the league leader in passing touchdowns with 36, as well as leading the league in completions with 410. He also ranked among the top five quarterbacks in passing yards and attempts. Prescott's performance was even more impressive considering his exceptional completion percentage above expectation.
In addition to his aerial prowess, Prescott showed signs of improvement on the ground last season. After being held under 200 rushing yards for three consecutive years following a serious ankle injury in 2020, Prescott managed to increase his rushing yardage. This added dimension to his game has further solidified his value in fantasy football.
With negotiations ongoing for potential long-term deals for Prescott and star wideout CeeDee Lamb, both players have extra motivation to perform at their best this season. The duo proved to be difference-makers in fantasy football last year, with Lamb finishing second among receivers in fantasy points per game, while Prescott placed fifth among quarterbacks.
However, it's worth noting that the Cowboys took some time to find their offensive identity last season. Both Prescott and Lamb emerged as leaders in fantasy scoring from Week 6 onwards. While Lamb's rise to prominence can be attributed to his first-round pedigree, Prescott's success is particularly noteworthy given his lack of rushing upside compared to other top fantasy quarterbacks.
Looking ahead to the 2024 season, Prescott's supporting cast remains largely intact. The Cowboys return Lamb, Brandin Cooks, tight end Jake Ferguson, and a group of young wideouts vying for the No. 3 receiver role. Jalen Tolbert leads this group of up-and-coming talents.
Despite Prescott's impressive performance last season, fantasy managers have been able to secure his services at a bargain price. He has been going off the board as the QB10 in July drafts, making him a steal for those who recognize his QB1 upside.
In other fantasy news, Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is poised for a bounce-back season. After dealing with injuries and contract issues last year, Taylor missed seven games and saw limited snaps in a few others. However, his performance during the final 12 weeks of the regular season was impressive. Taylor averaged the third-most fantasy points per game among running backs during that span, showcasing his high-end potential.
With a healthy Anthony Richardson returning to the Colts' offense and head coach Shane Steichen implementing a high-volume scheme, Taylor is set to thrive as a bell cow back in a potentially explosive offense. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on Taylor's progress as he aims to regain his status as a top-tier running back.
