Title: Crescenta Valley Councilman Resigns After Urination Incident Outside LGBTQ+ Bar
In a surprising turn of events, Crescenta Valley Town Councilmember Chris Kilpatrick has stepped down from his position following an incident outside an LGBTQ+ bar in downtown Los Angeles. Kilpatrick was captured on surveillance video urinating with another individual outside the employee entrance of Precinct, a popular bar on South Broadway.
The video, which was posted on the bar's Instagram account, shows Kilpatrick and his boyfriend relieving themselves on the glass doors of the establishment. According to the post, the two individuals were seen leaving the bar with cocktail glasses before the incident occurred. An employee confronted them and attempted to take their drinks away, resulting in an altercation.
Kilpatrick's attorney, John Duran, claimed that two bar employees approached the councilman and his boyfriend aggressively, without identifying themselves. Duran argued that Kilpatrick pushed back in self-defense, fearing that they might be subjected to harm due to their sexual orientation.
This incident has raised further scrutiny, as Duran himself has had his fair share of scandals during his time on the West Hollywood City Council. In 2016, he was involved in a sexual harassment lawsuit that resulted in a hefty settlement. Subsequent allegations in 2019 also led to protests demanding his resignation.
Although Kilpatrick was not initially identified in the Instagram post, commenters speculated that it was indeed him. Kilpatrick was elected to the Crescenta Valley Town Council in 2020, representing the residents of the northwest Pasadena area, including Montrose, Sunland, La Cañada Flintridge, and parts of Glendale.
The council became aware of the surveillance video on Tuesday and promptly requested a statement from Kilpatrick. However, he had already secured legal representation by that time. In response, the council planned a special meeting to address the issue, but before it could convene, Kilpatrick expressed his intention to resign from his position.
The council accepted Kilpatrick's resignation, which took effect immediately. While they denounced the behavior displayed in the video, they acknowledged his years of service and dedication to the community. The council leadership released a statement in which they said, "We do not condone any of the behavior we observed on social media, but we appreciate his commitment and dedication to the community during his tenure on the council."
Duran defended Kilpatrick by asserting that public urination is not a criminal offense and that any physical contact between Kilpatrick and the employee constituted a misdemeanor offense. The extent of the employee's injuries, if any, remains unclear.
With Kilpatrick's resignation, the Crescenta Valley Town Council will now move forward to address the vacancy and ensure the continued representation of the residents' interests and concerns in the local government body.
