The Cleveland Browns are gearing up for the start of their training camp at The Greenbrier resort in West Virginia, but not before addressing some injury-related concerns. The club announced on Thursday that seven players have been placed on the available training camp injury lists.

Cornerback Greg Newsome II, a surprise addition to the list, has been placed on the active/non-football injury (NFI) list due to a hamstring injury. Running back Nyheim Hines also joins Newsome on the NFI list.

Five players have been placed on the active/physically unable to perform (PUP) list. This includes running back Nick Chubb, who is still recuperating from two knee surgeries. Safety D'Anthony Bell, with a shin injury, and defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson, with a knee injury, join Chubb on the PUP list. Offensive tackles Jack Conklin and Jedrick Wills Jr. are also on the PUP list as they continue their recovery from knee injuries that ended their 2023 season prematurely.

While it may not come as a surprise for Chubb, Wills, Conklin, and Hines to be on the PUP list, Tomlinson's inclusion raises eyebrows, considering the optimism surrounding his recovery during the offseason. Nonetheless, the team remains positive about the progress made by Chubb, Wills, and Conklin and expects them to return in the upcoming weeks or months.

Newsome's injury, although less severe than others, still requires sufficient time for recovery. Despite participating in the team's mandatory minicamp, the cornerback's hamstring injury may need more time to heal. However, there is ample time before the regular season begins for Newsome to regain full fitness and make a valuable contribution to the team.

All seven players, including the injured rookies and veterans, count towards the 90-man roster limit and have the potential to be activated at any point during training camp, provided they pass their physical examinations.

As the Browns commence their training camp, the focus will be on nurturing the injured players back to health and ensuring their readiness for the upcoming season. With diligent rehabilitation and careful monitoring, the team aims to have all key personnel prepared to make an impact when the games start to count in the standings.
