**Christian Barmore Nearing Return to Bolster Patriots Defense**
The New England Patriots' defense, which has faced multiple personnel challenges this season, might soon see a significant boost. Head coach Jerod Mayo announced on Monday that defensive tackle Christian Barmore is "getting close" to returning to action. Barmore, who has been a vital part of the Patriots' defensive line, is currently on the non-football injury list due to blood clots diagnosed early in training camp.
Christian Barmore, just 25 years old, has quickly earned a reputation as one of the top interior defenders in the NFL since being drafted by the Patriots in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. His impact was significant enough that the organization signed him to a four-year, $84 million contract extension in the offseason, expecting him to maintain his starter role on the defensive line.
However, the promising start to his career was halted abruptly when he was diagnosed with blood clots just three months after agreeing to his new deal. Since then, Barmore has been sidelined but has kept himself involved with the team. He has regularly appeared at Gillette Stadium, participating in meetings and staying mentally prepared, as noted by defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery in September.
According to NFL regulations, Barmore was eligible to come off the non-football injury list after missing four weeks of action. With the Patriots now entering Week 10, there is optimism that the talented defender will return at some point this season, ready to strengthen a defense that has missed his presence.
