In a bid to enhance efficiency and streamline operations, popular fast-food chain Chipotle has unveiled its state-of-the-art robot named the Autocado. Designed specifically for peeling avocados, this innovative technology aims to expedite the avocado preparation process and free up Chipotle employees for other tasks.
According to Chipotle, the Autocado prototype is equipped with advanced features that enable it to cut, core, and peel avocados with remarkable precision. This collaborative robot, known as a "cobot," is currently being tested at a Chipotle store located on 20972 Magnolia St. in Huntington Beach, California.
One of the key advantages of the Autocado is its ability to handle avocados of various sizes, making it a "size agnostic" solution. Reports from Chipotle suggest that the Autocado can peel and seed an avocado in just 26 seconds, significantly reducing the time needed for manual operations.
Chipotle has invested funds from its $100 million venture fund into two companies, Vebu and Hyphen, who were instrumental in the development of the Autocado and the creation of Chipotle's new Augmented Makeline, respectively.
The Augmented Makeline is currently being tested at a Chipotle outlet located on 3050 East Coast Hwy in Corona del Mar, California. This cutting-edge technology utilizes automation to prepare custom bowls and salads for customers on a separate assembly line located beneath the regular preparation area. Chipotle revealed that approximately 65 percent of its digital orders are bowls or salads, paving the way for the implementation of this time-saving and efficient system.
With the introduction of the Autocado and the Augmented Makeline, Chipotle is aiming to optimize its operations and deliver an improved customer experience. By automating certain processes, the company aims to enhance speed and accuracy while allowing its employees to focus on other important tasks.
While the Autocado and the Augmented Makeline offer valuable benefits for Chipotle, it's worth noting that the highly popular extra guacamole option will still be available to customers. So, for those loyal customers who adore their favorite burrito bowl maker's heavy guacamole hand, rest assured that the extra guac will remain an option during the ordering process.
As Chipotle continues to innovate and invest in cutting-edge technology, customers can expect an enhanced dining experience and improved efficiency at their favorite fast-food restaurant. The Autocado and the Augmented Makeline represent yet another step towards Chipotle's commitment to delivering quality food while leveraging the power of technology.
