In a heart-pounding incident, a young boy who was inside a stolen car in Massachusetts has been found safe at a hotel in Connecticut. The incident triggered an Amber Alert and has led to the arrest of the suspect, identified as 52-year-old Vadim Vorobyov of Springfield. Vorobyov now faces a series of criminal charges, including kidnapping, child endangerment, and being a fugitive from justice in Connecticut. He is also expected to be charged with kidnapping, child endangerment, and motor vehicle larceny in Massachusetts.

The incident occurred on Friday morning around 8:40 a.m., when Vorobyov allegedly stole a red 2021 Toyota Camry that was parked with its engine running outside a residence on Exchange Street in Chicopee, Massachusetts. Surveillance footage obtained by Boston 25 shows a woman placing the 3-year-old boy in the car before walking away. Moments later, Vorobyov jumps into the driver's seat and drives off, leaving the mother distraught.

The stolen Toyota Camry was spotted on a license plate reader heading south on Route 91 in Longmeadow. It was later located in a Stop & Shop parking lot at 1095 Kennedy Road in Windsor, Connecticut, around 10:30 a.m. However, neither Vorobyov nor the child were found inside the vehicle. Authorities intensified their search for the missing child.

Fortunately, Sudhir Shrestha, the general manager of the Rodway Inn & Suites on Bridge Street in East Windsor, came forward and reported that a child had been left on their property. Video footage from the hotel shows Vorobyov exiting the stolen car, opening the back door, and releasing the toddler before driving away yet again. The child was left to wander the mostly empty parking lot.

Shrestha initially thought the toddler belonged to a guest before realizing the alarming situation after reviewing the surveillance footage. He promptly contacted law enforcement, ensuring the child's safety.

Following Shrestha's report, Vorobyov was located at the nearby Anytime Fitness and was taken into custody, resulting in the deactivation of the Amber Alert. The child was immediately transported to a Massachusetts hospital for a precautionary examination.

"We are grateful to the many members of the public and media outlets who quickly shared information," stated the state police in a released statement. The quick dissemination of information played a crucial role in the resolution of this incident.

As of now, the exact date for Vorobyov's court appearance has not been announced by the state police. However, an ongoing investigation is underway to gather all the necessary evidence in this case.

This incident serves as a reminder for parents and caretakers to remain vigilant and ensure the safety of children in vehicles, even for brief moments. Authorities are urging the public to report any suspicious activity promptly to prevent such harrowing situations from occurring in the future.
