Chicago Bears Legend Steve McMichael Inducted Into Hall of Fame Amidst Battle with ALS
In a heartfelt ceremony on Saturday, Chicago Bears legend Steve McMichael was officially inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Although unable to attend the festivities in person due to his ongoing battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), McMichael made a powerful appearance on the video board, surrounded by loved ones in a hospital bed.
Donning his esteemed bronze Hall of Fame jacket, McMichael's presence resonated throughout the ceremony in Canton, Ohio. Former Bears star Richard Dent, sharing words of admiration and respect, acknowledged the significance of McMichael's legacy. "You are on a team that you can never be cut from and never be released from. When you die, you'll always be on this team. Welcome home, Steve. You're in football heaven forever," Dent expressed.
Tears filled the eyes of McMichael's wife, Misty, as she turned her husband's attention towards his well-deserved bronze bust. Affectionately known as "Mongo," McMichael solidified his place in NFL history as an exceptional defensive tackle during his tenure with the Chicago Bears from 1981 to 1993. Additionally, he lent his talents to the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers, rounding out his remarkable 15-year career in the league.
During the ceremony, Kathy McMichael, Steve's sister, delivered a heartfelt speech on his behalf, expressing gratitude to the Chicago Bears organization and their passionate fans. "I want to thank the Chicago Bears and the fans, the best city to play football in," Kathy said, her words carefully crafted with her brother before his ability to speak and move was compromised by ALS. "I played 15 years in the NFL and loved every minute of every down. I played with the greatest players and the greatest defense to this day."
In addition to his remarkable football career, McMichael made a notable foray into the world of professional wrestling, performing in the World Championship Wrestling arena and even capturing the United States championship.
Steve McMichael's induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame serves as a testament to his unparalleled contribution to the sport and unwavering dedication to the game. Despite his absence at the ceremony, McMichael's legacy remains intact, forever etched in the annals of football history.
