Chicago Bears Chairman George McCaskey continues to demonstrate his dedication to youth sports officiating, despite his prominent role within the NFL organization. McCaskey, who has been officiating youth sports for five decades, recently chose to umpire a high school baseball doubleheader in Sycamore, Illinois, instead of being present in the war room during the third day of the NFL Draft.
McCaskey's love for officiating youth sports has been a life-long passion, stemming from his concern about the shortage of officials in local leagues. He actively takes part in umpiring baseball games, officiating football games, and assisting with other sports whenever possible.
Despite the allure of the NFL Draft, McCaskey prioritized his commitment to Sycamore High School baseball by umpiring their doubleheader. It was Sycamore athletic director Chauncey Carrick who informed McCaskey that the Bears had traded back into the draft to select Iowa punter Tory Taylor with pick No. 122 and Kansas defensive end Austin Booker with pick No. 144.
McCaskey's dedication to youth sports officiating showcases his continued involvement and commitment to the Sycamore community. His presence on the field not only enhances the quality of youth sports but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring officials.
Despite his wealth and stature as an NFL owner, George McCaskey remains grounded and connected to his passion for officiating youth sports. As he balances his obligations within the Bears' organization, McCaskey's unwavering commitment to local communities serves as a shining example for sports enthusiasts and aspiring officials alike.
