Cher has opened up about the brief duration of her marriage to the late singer Gregg Allman, which lasted only nine days. In her memoir, "Cher: Part One," the 78-year-old iconic performer delves into her short-lived matrimonial journey that began in 1975, shortly after discovering she was pregnant with their son, Elijah Blue Allman.

The legendary artist described how, amid uncertainty about the future of their relationship, the decision to wed was made following her pregnancy revelation. The wedding itself was a rapid affair, hastily organized in Las Vegas, attended by just two friends and concluded within minutes. Cher candidly admitted, "There was little about our wedding day that was romantic. There would be no honeymoon."

Their marriage hit a critical juncture when Cher found a "plastic bag full of white powder" in Allman's belongings. This discovery prompted her to file for divorce, although Allman soon entered rehab, leading to shared therapy sessions where he revealed the immense pressure of being "Mr. Cher."

A brief reconciliation followed, including a belated honeymoon in Jamaica, but another altercation ensued when Cher found Allman drinking. This, coupled with his heroin addiction, led to an ultimatum from Cher. Despite his efforts to get clean, including multiple stints in rehab, the repeated cycles drained her.

In July 1976, Cher and Allman welcomed their son Elijah. The arrival of their child, however, couldn't mend their fractured relationship. A significant turn came when Allman experienced a paranoid episode, seeing imaginary threats around their home, which made Cher realize the situation was unsafe for their children.

Ultimately, their marriage was officially dissolved in 1979. Before her union with Allman, Cher was married to Sonny Bono from 1964 to 1975, with whom she shares a son, Chaz Bono. Despite the tumult, Cher's experiences reflect her resilience and capacity for empathy amid personal challenges.
