In the early hours of Friday morning, a 4.8 magnitude earthquake rocked New York City, New Jersey, and surrounding areas, leaving residents and celebrities startled. One of the famous personalities affected by the seismic event was Melissa Gorga, star of The Real Housewives of New Jersey.
Gorga described her experience during the earthquake as "complete shock." She was alone in her gym when the house started shaking, leading her to believe it was being invaded. With weights in her hands, she initially mistook the sound for a stampede. The reality star's panic intensified when she received a notification that her front door was open, raising concerns of a potential intruder.
Despite her fear, Gorga showed her wit and humor, recounting how she momentarily considered the possibility of a ghost causing the disturbance. However, after receiving messages from her Envy boutique employees reporting similar experiences, she realized that it was indeed an earthquake.
Her husband, Joe Gorga, swiftly reached out to check on her well-being, expressing his concern and asking what had happened. Melissa Gorga took to Instagram to share her ordeal, posting a picture from inside her home and detailing the chaos she had experienced.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake was estimated to be a 4.8 magnitude and was centered near Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, approximately 40 miles west of New York City. The quake took place in the morning, with buildings from Philadelphia to Westchester, New York, feeling the tremors.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul reassured the public that her team was assessing any potential impacts or damages resulting from the earthquake. She pledged to provide updates throughout the day to keep the public informed.
The news of the earthquake spread quickly, prompting several celebrities to share their reactions on social media. Even the iconic Empire State Building took to its X (formerly Twitter) page to confirm that it was unaffected by the earthquake. The Today show's Al Roker also shared a video on his Instagram, expressing his surprise and stating that he had never felt anything like it before.
Celebrities and individuals from various locations, including the Hudson Valley and Connecticut, reported feeling the tremors. Hilarie Burton, known for her role in One Tree Hill, acknowledged that she felt the earthquake, as did her girlfriend in Connecticut.
Former Real Housewives of New York City star Bethenny Frankel also joined the conversation on social media, posting an Instagram Story where she humorously described that she could feel "the earth move under my feet."
As authorities continue to assess the impact and potential damages caused by the earthquake, residents and celebrities in the affected areas are grateful that no major injuries or severe damage have been reported so far.
