A number of high-profile celebrities, including Billie Eilish, Ramy Youssef, and several others, made a powerful statement on the red carpet at the 96th Academy Awards by wearing red pins in support of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Their protest aimed to draw attention to the ongoing conflict and push for immediate action towards peace.

During a red carpet interview, Youssef expressed the collective sentiment, stating, "We're all calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. We're calling for the safety of everyone involved. We really want lasting justice and peace for the Palestinian people." The celebrities emphasized the urgency of ending the violence and protecting innocent lives, particularly children.

The red pins worn by the celebrities were part of a campaign initiated by Artists4Ceasefire, a group made up of individuals from the entertainment industry. These individuals penned an open letter to President Joe Biden, urging him to take decisive action to facilitate a ceasefire and put an end to the bloodshed. The letter was signed by renowned figures such as Mark Ruffalo, Kristen Stewart, Mahershala Ali, Jennifer Lopez, and Ava DuVernay.

In addition to Eilish and Youssef, other attendees seen wearing the red pins included Eugene Lee Yang, known for his role in "Nimona," Misan Harriman, director of the nominated film "The After," and Kaouther Ben Hania, nominated for best documentary feature for "Four Daughters." Their unified display of support highlighted the importance of raising awareness and mobilizing efforts for peace in the region.

However, the celebrities' red carpet entrance was momentarily delayed by pro-Palestinian protesters who blocked traffic in front of the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood. Chanting "Ceasefire now! Free Palestine," the protesters voiced their demands for a resolution to the conflict. The demonstration disrupted the arrival of many prominent stars, causing the Academy to dispatch golf carts to assist those who were unable to reach the venue due to the blockade.

The series of events at the 96th Academy Awards emphasized the widespread concern among the entertainment community regarding the humanitarian crisis in the region. Celebrities, along with protesters, utilized their platforms to advocate for peace, justice, and the protection of human lives. The solidarity displayed by these influential figures aims to foster dialogue and create momentum towards lasting peace in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
