The Dallas Cowboys have engaged in discussions with CeeDee Lamb's representation over the phone in order to come to an agreement on a new contract, according to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News. The team has reportedly offered the talented wide receiver a deal slightly below $33 million per season, which would place him ahead of Philadelphia's A.J. Brown ($32 million) but behind Minnesota's Justin Jefferson ($35 million) in terms of annual average earnings for players in his position.

Lamb, who had an exceptional season last year, is not aiming to surpass Jefferson's contract, as Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones has acknowledged. Instead, he simply wants to be in the same range. In the 2020 season, Lamb recorded a league-leading 135 catches for 1,749 receiving yards, and 12 touchdowns, earning him All-Pro honors for the first time in his career.

Although the negotiations are ongoing, it is worth noting that Lamb had a base salary of $2.52 million last season and is currently set to play this year on the $17.991 million fifth-year option. The discrepancy between his previous earnings and the offer on the table highlights the desire for a more lucrative deal.

Additionally, Lamb's absence from the team is notable as he has chosen to hold out of the Cowboys' offseason program and training camp, now entering its 25th day. Despite the absence, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer expressed confidence in Lamb's readiness for the upcoming season. Schottenheimer mentioned that Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott have built a strong rapport, accumulating thousands of practice repetitions together.

The negotiations between Lamb and the Cowboys continue as both parties work towards reaching a mutually beneficial agreement. Cowboys fans anxiously await updates on a potential deal that will secure Lamb's return to the team for the upcoming season.
