Former Ohio State safety Cedrick Hawkins wasted no time in finding a new school after entering the transfer portal last week. The Florida native announced his commitment to the University of Central Florida on Saturday, choosing to play closer to home.

Hawkins, known for his mid-Rose Bowl commitment in 2022, decided to leave Ohio State after just one season with the Buckeyes. Although he didn't see any game action during his time in Columbus, he had a chance to showcase his skills in Ohio State's spring game, appearing on the field for 46 plays.

The 60 188 DB will now join the UCF Knights, who recently completed their first season in the Big 12 Conference with a 6-7 overall record. Hawkins's decision to transfer to UCF provides him with a clearer path to playing time, as he will have four years of eligibility remaining.

Hawkins becomes one of only two Ohio State players to transfer during the spring window, with running back Dallan Hayden being the other. While Hayden has garnered significant interest and is currently on a visit to Colorado, Hawkins became the first to secure a new school, committing to UCF.

The move to UCF not only brings Hawkins closer to his Florida roots but also offers him an opportunity to make an impact on the field. With his experience and potential, the talented defensive back could play a vital role in bolstering the Knights' defense for the upcoming seasons.

As Hawkins prepares to embark on a new chapter of his collegiate career, the UCF Knights and their fans eagerly await his arrival, hoping he can contribute to a successful future for the football program.
