CBS has officially announced the end of its long-running daytime chat show, "The Talk." The show, which first premiered in 2010, will have an abbreviated final season, marking its 15th year on air, before signing off for good with a "celebratory sendoff" in December 2024.
Rumors about the show's impending end have been circulating for months, but CBS made the decision official to the cast and crew on Friday morning. In a joint statement, CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach and CBS Studios president David Stapf expressed their gratitude to the show's hosts, producers, crew, and former hosts who contributed over the years.
"The Talk" broke new ground when it launched 14 years ago, bringing a refreshing and award-winning format of daytime talk back to CBS. It quickly became a key program in CBS' highly-rated daytime lineup, engaging viewers worldwide with timely, important, and entertaining topics and discussions.
Hosting and producing a year-round talk show is no easy task, and CBS expressed sincere appreciation for the hosts Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Jerry O'Connell, and Sheryl Underwood, as well as executive producer/showrunner Rob Crabbe and the hardworking producing team and crew.
Throughout its impressive run, "The Talk" earned numerous accolades, including 11 Daytime Emmy Awards and 56 nominations. Some of the notable achievements include winning the Daytime Emmy for outstanding talk show/entertainment in 2016 and 2018, as well as for writing in 2015 and host in 2017. The show also received the People's Choice Award for daytime TV hosting team in 2016 and the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Talk Series in the same year.
Created by Sara Gilbert, who also hosted for the first nine seasons, "The Talk" originally aimed to provide an alternative to "The View" by focusing on discussions through the lens of motherhood. Over the years, the show expanded its focus and featured a diverse roster of hosts, including Julie Chen Moonves, Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Remini, Marissa Janet Winokur, Aisha Tyler, Eve, Carrie Ann Inaba, Marie Osmond, and Elaine Welteroth.
As the final season approaches, CBS plans to celebrate the show's legacy and give it the proper sendoff it deserves. Viewers can expect a series of special episodes leading up to the December conclusion, honoring the many years of insightful conversations and engaging entertainment.
"The Talk" will forever be remembered as a trailblazing program that brought diverse voices and perspectives into living rooms around the globe.
