The Carolina Panthers have made some key roster changes as they prepare for their upcoming season opener. One notable move includes placing veteran tight end Ian Thomas on injured reserve due to a calf injury he sustained during training camp. This means Thomas will be sidelined for at least the next four weeks, causing him to miss the opener.

Since his injury, Thomas has been unable to practice, further raising concerns about his availability for the team. Consequently, the Panthers decided to promote tight end Feleipe Franks from the practice squad to add depth at the position. Franks, a former University of Florida quarterback who converted to tight end while with the Falcons, brings versatility and valuable experience to the team.

Moreover, cornerback Keenan Isaac has been waived by the Panthers. Isaac was one of the six waiver claims made by the team following roster cuts. Having spent last year with the Buccaneers, Isaac's departure opens up space for other defensive options.

With these roster moves, the Panthers have also bolstered their defense by signing defensive tackle Jayden Peevy from the practice squad. Peevy, who had previously spent time on the practice squad last year, now joins the active roster as the team's sixth defensive lineman.

Additionally, the Panthers made some temporary roster adjustments for the week leading up to the game. Veteran running back Mike Boone and cornerback Lonnie Johnson were both elevated from the practice squad, providing valuable special teams contributions. It is worth noting that players can be elevated from the practice squad up to three times during the season, allowing teams to utilize the depth of their roster strategically.

As the Panthers gear up for their season opener, these roster changes reflect their commitment to maintaining a competitive and well-rounded team. The addition of Franks and Peevy, along with the elevations of Boone and Johnson, provides depth and flexibility in crucial positions. Fans eagerly await the Panthers' upcoming game, where these changes will undoubtedly impact the team's performance.
