In the highly anticipated 2022 state primaries, the polls closed at 11 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday. Just 11 minutes later, the first results were reported, giving voters an early glimpse into the election outcomes. However, the final update of the night came at 6:10 a.m. Eastern time, with 48 percent of votes reported.

California, one of the five states holding primaries for the presidential race, was also conducting its state primary. In these primaries, candidates from all political parties were listed on a single ballot, with the top two vote-getters advancing to the general election. This system allowed for a diverse range of candidates to compete and ensured a competitive electoral process.

To ensure maximum participation, all active registered voters in the state were mailed a ballot, which had to be postmarked by Election Day and received by March 12. Additionally, early in-person voting was made available to voters, providing them with a convenient and flexible option to cast their votes.

One notable difference in the primary process was the voting eligibility for Republican and Democratic nominees. Republican voters were required to be registered with their party to vote for their chosen nominee. On the other hand, Democrats and unaffiliated voters were allowed to participate in the Democratic election, fostering greater inclusivity in the decision-making process.
