Buffalo Bills co-owner Kim Pegula made a significant step in her recovery from a debilitating cardiac arrest as she joined the team on the field during training camp. On Friday, Pegula, accompanied by her husband Terry Pegula, broke the post-practice team huddle, marking the first time she was seen publicly walking on her own since her cardiac arrest in June 2022.

Pegula had been watching practice from the passenger seat of the family's SUV for the first two days of camp, reminiscent of last year when she made her first appearance since falling ill. But on Friday, her determination and progress were evident as Terry Pegula helped her out of the vehicle and led her to the team gathered near the goal line. In an emotional moment, surrounded by players, she counted down "three, two, one, Bills" to break the huddle.

Left tackle Dion Dawkins expressed his pride and admiration for Pegula's progress, referring to her as the "Mama Bear" of the team. Coach Sean McDermott also became emotional when recounting the moment, emphasizing his gratitude and perspective about the preciousness of every day.

Pegula's recovery has been extensive, focused on regaining her motor skills and addressing language and memory issues. Before her illness, she served as the president of both the Buffalo Bills and the Buffalo Sabres, actively involved in player-related matters, marketing campaigns, and the design of the Bills' new stadium set to open in 2026. She was also a member of several NFL committees, exemplifying her dedication to the sports industry.

Quarterback Josh Allen highlighted Pegula's impact on the team and expressed happiness in seeing her back on the field. He acknowledged that newcomers may not fully understand the significant role she played in Buffalo. Her presence and support during training camp inspired the players to rally around her.

In the coming days, the Pegulas are expected to travel to Paris to watch their daughter, Jessica Pegula, represent the United States in tennis at the Olympics. Terry Pegula has assumed his wife's role as president of the Bills and Sabres following a restructuring of their holdings last summer.

Kim Pegula's attendance at training camp in her hometown of Fairport, New York, holds special significance. Born in South Korea, she was adopted at a young age and brought to the United States. The Pegulas made their fortune in the natural gas industry and then purchased the Buffalo Sabres in 2011, followed by acquiring the Buffalo Bills in 2014.

Kim Pegula's courageous and determined presence at training camp serves as an inspiration to both the team and the community as she continues her recovery journey. Her steps towards recovery embody resilience and strength, reminding everyone of the power of perseverance in the face of adversity.
