In a move that has captured the attention of bettors, Caesars Sportsbook made Bronny James’ debut a simple proposition, setting the over/under at 0.5 points for Tuesday’s game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves. Surprisingly, this became not only the most followed NBA player prop bet of the night but also one of the most popular ever for the sportsbook.
"We had bets coming in from both sides all day," said David Lieberman, who manages NBA odds for Caesars, as he spoke to ESPN. "It reminded me of how popular Caitlin Clark's props were in the WNBA this year."
Other major sportsbooks like FanDuel noted that prop bets involving Bronny James garnered more interest than those featuring stars Anthony Edwards, Anthony Davis, and even LeBron James, Bronny's father. Although most of the bets placed on Bronny were relatively small, some wagers reached four- and five-figure sums.
Explaining the odds, Lieberman stated, "We kept it at 0.5 just for simplicity's sake — basically, will he score or not." He added that the betting was evenly split between the over and under, with slightly more tickets on the over but closely matched money on both sides.
Jake Bensimon, a sports bettor from Maryland, shared that he placed a $2,500 bet for Bronny to score over 1.5 points with FanDuel at -135 odds. He revealed that it was his first-ever NBA prop bet. "It's strictly a bet on LeBron creating a bucket for his son," Bensimon shared in a direct message to ESPN. "I figured it was something LeBron would prioritize, and the line seemed fair."
However, Bronny’s performance fell short of the mark. He went 0-2 from the field, missing an open three-pointer and a putback from an offensive rebound during his three minutes of play.
While some major sportsbooks delayed posting prop bets on Bronny until just hours before the game, reducing potential action, Caesars Sportsbook is committed to continuing Bronny-related prop bets throughout the season. "It will be an interesting storyline and year, and it's a market that bettors clearly want," Lieberman noted.
As the Lakers prepare to host the Phoenix Suns on Friday, ESPN BET is offering +175 odds on both Bronny and LeBron making a three-pointer, among other "Like Father, Like Son" prop bets.
