Bronny James, the son of NBA legend LeBron James, is encountering challenges as he prepares for the NBA Draft following a challenging freshman season at USC. Despite declaring for the draft last month, James' lackluster performance at college has left many scouts skeptical of his NBA potential.

During his freshman year with the Trojans, James struggled to make an impact, averaging fewer than five points per game. His decision to enter the draft raised eyebrows, as he has the option to return to college. It is speculated that his previous health scare, suffering from cardiac arrest last summer, may have influenced his decision.

While James showcased some potential by dropping 13 points in a scrimmage at the NBA Scouting Combine, it failed to impress scouts. ESPN's Marc Spears shared feedback from scouts who expressed reservations about James. One scout even suggested that if the Lakers, the team his father currently plays for, do not select him, it is unlikely any other team would.

Critics highlighted James' uncertain position on the court, being caught between two positions. He has the size to be a point guard but lacks the ability to run an offense effectively. Conversely, as an undersized shooting guard, his shooting skills are lacking. His comparison to Davion Mitchell, a backup point guard for the Baylor Bears, further diminishes his NBA prospects. Mitchell averaged 15.3 minutes and 5.3 points per game this season.

Throughout his freshman season, James appeared in 25 games, averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. There have been discrepancies regarding his height, as he measured at 6 feet, 1.5 inches during the NBA Scouting Combine, while being listed at 6 feet, 4 inches at USC.

Speculation arises that the Lakers might consider drafting James to keep LeBron James on the team, considering he is set to become a free agent two days after the draft. However, with doubts surrounding Bronny's abilities, it remains uncertain whether such a move would occur.

As the NBA Draft approaches, Bronny James faces uncertainty and skepticism regarding his future in professional basketball. Whether he will overcome these obstacles and make a name for himself in the NBA remains to be seen.
