In a tragic turn of events, Dr. Michael Mosley, a prominent British celebrity doctor and advocate for the 5:2 diet, was found dead on the Greek island of Symi. Greek police have ruled his death as resulting from natural causes, as an initial autopsy revealed no injuries that could have led to his demise.
The 67-year-old Mosley went missing during his vacation, prompting a massive search operation on the island. Four days later, his remains were discovered by a bar manager near a fence at a bar, after the mayor of the island had noticed something suspicious and alerted staff.
An investigation by Greek authorities revealed that Mosley's time of death was around 4 p.m. local time last Wednesday, the same day he disappeared. Konstantia Dimoglido, the police spokeswoman, stated that the conclusion that he died from natural causes was based on the absence of injuries and the position in which his body was found.
Footage from security cameras appeared to capture Mosley's final moments. He could be seen walking down a hillside close to where his body was discovered, carrying an umbrella. According to reports, he lost his footing on the rugged terrain and fell on the rocks. The analysis of his route and the security footage indicated that he was just 90 seconds away from safety.
Mosley's body was found lying on his back on a rock with both of his legs bent and slightly raised, while his left hand rested across his chest. A police source suggested that the position of the body indicated that Mosley first sat down and then passed away, discounting the possibility of an external impact to his head or collapsing while walking.
The elevation of Mosley's legs also raised speculation about his health condition before his death. Given the extreme heat, the British newspaper, The Times, mentioned that the position could suggest he was feeling seriously ill. The NHS advises patients feeling faint to lie down and elevate their legs to maximize blood flow to the brain.
Mosley's wife, Dr. Clare Bailey Mosley, and their four children released a statement expressing their grief and finding solace in the fact that he had come incredibly close to safety before his tragic end. They thanked everyone for the support and love they have received from people worldwide, underscoring Michael's significant impact on so many.
The news of Dr. Michael Mosley's untimely death has shocked and saddened people in both the medical and celebrity communities. His contributions to health and nutrition advocacy will be remembered as his loved ones cope with this devastating loss.
