In a strategic move to fill the void left by Austin Riley's injury, the Atlanta Braves have signed third baseman Gio Urshela. The 32-year-old Urshela, who had been designated for assignment by the Tigers and cleared waivers on Sunday, will make his debut with the Braves on Tuesday night against the division-leading Philadelphia Phillies.

Riley's injury occurred during Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Angels when he was hit by a pitch. An MRI scan on Monday revealed a fracture in his right hand, which is expected to sideline him for approximately six to eight weeks. In order to make room for Urshela on the roster, the Braves placed Riley on the 10-day injured list, backdated to August 19.

Urshela, a native of Cartagena, Colombia, brings a wealth of experience to the Braves lineup. He has previously played for the Guardians, Yankees, Twins, Blue Jays, Angels, and Tigers, accumulating 69 career home runs and maintaining a solid .273 batting average in the majors. Last season with the Tigers, Urshela recorded a .243 batting average with five home runs and 37 RBIs in 92 games.

The Braves will be counting on Urshela to deliver both offensively and defensively as they face the Phillies in a crucial three-game series. He will make his presence felt from the eighth spot in the batting order, aiming to contribute to Atlanta's quest for a playoff berth.

In order to accommodate Urshela on the 40-man roster, the Braves made the decision to transfer reliever A.J. Minter to the 60-day injured list. By making these moves, the Braves are determined to make the most of their resources and bolster their chances of success.

As Urshela prepares to don the Braves uniform, fans eagerly anticipate seeing how he will contribute to the team's pursuit of victory. With Riley on the sidelines, the Braves are looking for a reliable replacement, and Urshela's signing provides them a promising option. The stage is set for an exciting clash between the Braves and the Phillies, and all eyes will be on Urshela as he steps up to fill the void left by Riley's absence.
