Following the disqualification of boxers Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting at the 2023 World Championships, questions arose about their eligibility for the upcoming Paris Olympics. However, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has confirmed that both athletes have complied with all gender eligibility requirements to compete in the women's divisions at the Paris Olympics in 2024.
Imane Khelif, representing Algeria, and Lin Yu-ting from Taiwan, had previously participated in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Despite their disqualification in the 2023 World Championships, the IOC has affirmed that all athletes partaking in the boxing tournament at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics meet the necessary eligibility and entry regulations, including medical criteria.
The disqualifications of Khelif and Lin during the women's world championships in New Delhi in March 2023 were linked to their failure to meet the eligibility criteria set by the International Boxing Association. Khelif reportedly tested for high levels of testosterone, while Lin lost her bronze medal due to non-compliance with the governing body's regulations.
Khelif is set to face Italy's Angela Carini in the 66-kilogram category, while Lin has received a first-round bye in the 57-kilogram division for the Paris Olympics. The decisions made by the International Boxing Association regarding the eligibility of both boxers have caused controversy within their respective camps.
