Lincoln, Nebraska - The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning set to begin at 7 p.m. on Sunday, impacting parts of central, north central, and west central Nebraska. The warning is expected to remain in effect until 1 a.m. on Tuesday.
In addition, a Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect for the area from 1 p.m. on Sunday. The National Weather Service predicts that the region could see additional snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch.
The anticipated winter storm has the potential to bring a total snow accumulation of six to 11 inches, along with ice accumulations of up to two-tenths of an inch. Strong winds with gusts reaching up to 55 mph are also expected, leading to potential whiteout conditions.
Nebraska 511 has reported that several roads in northern Nebraska are already completely covered with snow. This could pose significant challenges for travel in the affected areas tonight and into Monday.
As the storm approaches, residents are encouraged to exercise caution and stay updated on the latest weather alerts. The National Weather Service advises people to avoid unnecessary travel and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
As always, local news outlets and the National Weather Service are urging residents to submit their weather photos and videos, allowing the broader community to stay informed and aware of the storm's impact.
With the combination of heavy snow, strong winds, and potential whiteout conditions, it is crucial that individuals in central and northern Nebraska remain vigilant and prepared for the winter storm's arrival.
