The Portland Trail Blazers are exploring a potential trade that could see them acquire the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, according to a mock trade scenario by Bleacher Report writer Grant Hughes. The draft is set to commence tomorrow at 5 p.m. PT.

Currently holding the seventh and fourteenth picks in the draft, the Blazers are reportedly considering consolidating their assets to make a move up the board. Hughes' proposed trade involves sending picks seven and fourteen to the Washington Wizards in exchange for the coveted second selection.

Although the quality of this year's draft class has received mixed reviews, the Blazers are believed to be interested in either Alex Sarr or Zaccharie Risacher. However, they fear that these players may not be available at their current seventh spot. The potential trade assumes that the Wizards share a similar opinion and see little difference in the ceiling of players available at No. 2 and further down the draft board.

If the trade were to be realized, the Blazers would likely target either the player not selected first overall or Donovan Clingan, who has been linked to the team should he fall to the seventh pick. While it is acknowledged that the trade is unlikely, as the Wizards may not be willing to part with the No. 2 pick, it would make sense for the Blazers to consolidate their assets for a potentially more impactful player.

One of the main advantages for the Blazers would be the opportunity to bring in the player widely regarded as the top talent in the draft class. With limited roster space, acquiring one less player could aid the team in managing their lineup more efficiently. Additionally, landing a player of such high acclaim would undoubtedly boost the overall strength of the Blazers.

The outcome of the trade proposal remains to be seen, but it demonstrates the Blazers' willingness to explore opportunities to improve their roster. As the 2024 NBA Draft approaches, all eyes will be on Portland to see if they can secure a higher spot on the board and add a potential star to their lineup.
