The billionaire Koch family's investment vehicle, 1888 Management, is reportedly in discussions to purchase a minority stake in the Brooklyn Nets. This news comes after speculations of Nets owner Joe Tsai considering selling a minority share over the past year.
The potential deal could extend beyond just a stake in the basketball team itself, possibly including ownership in BSE Global, the holding company that oversees the Brooklyn Nets, the New York Liberty of the WNBA, and the Barclays Center.
At a valuation of nearly $4 billion, the Nets rank as the fifth most valuable sports team in New York City, ahead of the Mets. If the deal goes through, the Koch family, worth an estimated $64 billion, would become one of the richest and most influential ownership groups involved in the NBA, second only to Clippers' billionaire owner Steve Ballmer.
