In a fiery speech at the Gridiron club dinner in Washington DC on Saturday, former President Joe Biden launched a scathing attack on Donald Trump's mental stability. This came as Trump himself made a series of verbal gaffes during a campaign rally in Ohio, where he predicted a "bloodbath" if he were to face defeat in the upcoming election.

During his appearance in Vandalia, Trump left the crowd perplexed by insisting that Biden had defeated "Barack Hussein Obama" in elections that never occurred. He struggled with pronouncing simple words like "bite" and "largest," and his remarks about Obama confused listeners, given that Biden served as Obama's vice-president from 2009 to 2017 before assuming the presidency himself in 2020.

Taking a jab at Trump's mental fitness, Biden joked during his speech at the Gridiron club dinner, a traditional event dating back to the 1880s, that "one candidate is too old and mentally unfit to be president. The other one is me." He also mocked Trump's confusion between him and Obama on previous occasions.

Meanwhile, Trump's rally in Ohio saw him delving into darker and apocalyptic themes. He warned that if he were to be rejected at the polls, the country would witness a "bloodbath," without providing further clarification on his statement. The Biden re-election campaign swiftly responded, stating that Trump's comments illustrated his true character.

Two Republicans, Senator Bill Cassidy and former Vice President Mike Pence, came to Trump's defense, suggesting that his remark on a "bloodbath" could be interpreted as an economic disaster, specifically referencing the impact on the auto industry in Ohio.

Trump's Ohio address also included repeated unsubstantiated claims about foreign countries sending criminals and mentally ill individuals to the US, prompting him to once again attack immigrants, referring to some as "animals."

The event was not without its fair share of personal insults from Trump, as he called Biden "stupid" multiple times and made vulgar references to individuals such as Georgia prosecutor Fani Willis and California Governor Gavin Newsom. He also criticized the appearance of JB Pritzker, the governor of Illinois.

Nancy Pelosi, former US House Speaker, condemned Trump's remarks during her appearance on CNN's State of the Union, highlighting his divisive rhetoric and questioning what it means when he predicts a "bloodbath."

Biden echoed these concerns during his speech at the Gridiron dinner, emphasizing that democracy and freedom are under attack. He also criticized Trump's approach to Russian President Vladimir Putin, accusing his predecessor of bowing down to Putin and allowing him to act with impunity.

The remarks made by both Biden and Trump during their respective engagements highlight the intense rivalry between the two political figures. As the November election draws near, their words underscore the stakes at hand as they vie for the presidency once again.
