In a strategic move to sway supporters of former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, President Joe Biden's campaign has released a new ad. The campaign, fueled by the success of a recent $26 million fundraiser in New York, aims to persuade Haley's supporters to back the Democrat's re-election bid.

Sources in attendance at a meeting of the National Finance Committee in New York reported that senior members of the Biden campaign previewed the ad. Later, a version of the ad was posted on X by the campaign. The ad prominently features former President Donald Trump calling Haley "Birdbrain" and explicitly stating that her supporters were not welcomed in his campaign.

Trump's remarks were originally published on his Truth Social website in January, where he declared that anyone contributing to Haley would be permanently barred from the MAGA (Make America Great Again) camp. However, Trump walked back his threat after Haley withdrew from the race, inviting her supporters to join his movement.

The Biden campaign has not yet provided specific details about the ad, including the platforms on which it will be aired. The level of support among Republican and independent voters who previously backed Haley has been closely monitored by Biden's advisers, with an eye on potentially securing their support in battleground states.

Observers have noted that former Haley voters could play a crucial role in states like Pennsylvania, where Biden narrowly won in 2020. Moderate and anti-Trump Republicans were instrumental in Biden's victory that year. In a statement following Haley's decision to end her bid, Biden expressed his willingness to welcome her supporters into his campaign and commended her for challenging the former president with courage.

The Trump campaign, however, is pushing back against Biden's efforts. A senior official from the Trump campaign argued that a significant number of Haley's supporters in certain states were Democrats. The official emphasized that the door remains open for Republican Haley supporters to return, highlighting issues such as the economy, national security, and border security as reasons to choose the former president's agenda.

As the general election campaign shapes up to be one of the longest in U.S. history, Biden's campaign is leveraging their financial advantage to target potential voters who may be swayed by Haley's departure from Trump's sphere of influence. The impact of the new ad and whether it can effectively shift support remains to be seen as the election season progresses.
