Bears Surprise with Active Roster Decisions for Week 1

In an unexpected move, the Chicago Bears announced their gameday roster for Week 1 with a surprising decision regarding second-year wide receiver Tyler Scott. Scott, who was presumed to be the team's No. 4 wide receiver, was rendered inactive for Sunday's game. This means that Velus Jones Jr. and DeAndre Carter will be the only wide receivers available behind Keenan Allen, DJ Moore, and Rome Odunze.
Throughout training camp, Scott had shown promising improvement in his route running and catching abilities. He had also developed a strong connection with rookie quarterback Caleb Williams during practice, particularly on deep passes. However, it seems the Bears opted for Jones Jr. and Carter over Scott due to their contributions on special teams, as both are expected to serve as returners in the third phase of the game. Scott, on the other hand, is not considered a core special teams player.
Running back Roschon Johnson was also listed as inactive for Sunday's game. Although this move was less surprising, given that Johnson had missed a significant portion of the summer due to a toe injury, he had participated in full practice on Friday and did not carry an injury designation over the weekend. It is worth noting that the Bears had utilized Jones Jr. as a running back in training camp, potentially viewing him as a fourth running back in addition to being a fourth or fifth wide receiver.
Furthermore, defensive linemen Zacch Pickens and Dominique Robinson were among those who did not receive a jersey for Week 1. Pickens, who had been nursing a groin injury throughout the offseason, was ruled out for Sunday's game earlier in the week. Meanwhile, it seems that Robinson may have simply fallen short in the Bears' talented group of edge rushers.
Additionally, offensive linemen Kiran Amegadjie and Bill Murray were not included in the active roster. Amegadjie had a delayed start to training camp due to a longer-than-expected recovery from a quad injury. Murray, on the other hand, appears to be last in line in the rotation for the interior offensive line.
As the Bears kick off their season, these unexpected roster decisions raise curiosity among fans and analysts alike. It remains to be seen how the absence of Scott and Johnson, along with the inclusion of Jones Jr. and Carter, will impact the team's performance in the opening game.
