ICARO Media Group
In a recent press statement, Banda has unveiled its extraordinary townhouse at Mulberry Square, showcasing the incredible strength of the artisanal ecosystem. With meticulous attention to detail and a seamless fusion of traditional and contemporary elements, the townhouse exudes a sense of tranquility and showcases the power of well-crafted pieces coming together to create a remarkable home.
The interior of the townhouse boasts a soothing neutral color palette and an array of natural materials, creating a harmonious ambiance throughout. Highly regarded craftsman Toord Boontje's custom metalwork adds a touch of vintage charm, paying homage to the development's military origins. Whimsical wallpaper by Tess Newall, artwork by Anton Byrne Carter, and a hand-knotted wool rug from India further enhance the craft-focused décor. A striking bronze arched mirror, meticulously handcrafted in the North of England by British studio Novocastrian, adds a touch of elegance.
Collaborations with renowned designers are evident throughout the home. Banda partnered with Pierre Augustin Rose to create a bespoke double-sided curved sofa for the living room, while Studio 27 contributed bespoke pieces for the kitchen and study.
According to Mapelli Mozzi, the founder of Banda, the townhouse's meticulously crafted furniture and use of natural materials foster a profound sense of wellbeing. Craftsmen often attest to the importance of their skills for their mental health, and this feeling of being grounded and calm permeates every corner of the home, particularly evident in the basement level's spa area.
Boasting wood-paneled walls and plush loungers, the indoor pool area evokes a serene spa-like atmosphere. The lower level functions as a private sanctuary, complete with vintage Willy Guhl sculptures. Here, one can find a 36-foot-long pool, inviting plush daybeds for relaxation, a shower space, a dedicated gym, and a meditation area.
One of the highlights of the townhouse is the expansive top-floor primary suite, spanning nearly 1,200 square feet. Adorned with a freestanding pebble tub and a fitted dressing room, this luxurious space offers a haven of comfort and elegance. Moreover, the suite provides access to a roof terrace that affords breathtaking views of the city of London.
Mapelli Mozzi emphasizes how the townhouse embraces the wabi-sabi theory, celebrating the imperfect beauty of human-made craft. The seamless blend of traditional and contemporary elements creates an unexpected energy, revealing the spirit of every person involved in the design journey.
Banda's townhouse at Mulberry Square is truly a testament to the remarkable craftsmanship and the power of bringing together handmade pieces to create a sophisticated and serene living space. It serves as a sanctuary for its lucky residents, offering an oasis of tranquility amidst the bustling city of London.
