The Baltimore Orioles have made a significant move by acquiring left-handed starter Trevor Rogers from the Miami Marlins. The trade, confirmed by The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, involves outfielder Kyle Stowers and infielder Connor Norby heading to Miami in return for Rogers. Rogers, who has a 4.53 ERA in 21 starts, is under team control through 2026, providing the Orioles with a promising addition to their pitching rotation.

Rogers, who was an All-Star and NL Rookie of the Year runner-up in 2021, has seen a slight dip in performance this year, reflected in his 1.85 strikeout-to-walk ratio, a career-low for the left-hander. Despite this, the Orioles see potential in Rogers and aim to benefit from his abilities in the seasons to come. The cost of acquiring Rogers, with Stowers and Norby both excelling in Triple-A, raises questions about the potential return Miami could get for reliever Tanner Scott, who is a sought-after asset in the market.

As part of the trade, the Orioles gain two additional years of club control over Rogers, providing long-term stability to their pitching staff. Connor Norby, a promising 24-year-old infielder, was listed as the eighth top prospect in the Orioles' ranks by Keith Law, highlighting the value Miami may find in this trade. The move aligns with earlier reports indicating the Orioles' interest in bolstering their roster with a left-handed reliever, a starter, and a right-handed hitting outfielder.
