In a preseason matchup against their rivals, the Miami Dolphins showcased their depth and potential with several standout performances. While the night ended with an interception, backup quarterback Thompson led the team to sustained offensive success, a rare feat for Miami's backup quarterbacks this August. With two touchdown passes, Thompson displayed his ability to lead the Dolphins down the field on impressive 70- and 76-yard drives.

Thompson's performance was a welcome sight for Dolphins fans, as he completed 19 of 27 passes for 190 yards. This yardage total alone surpassed the cumulative total of Mike White's three preseason appearances. White, unfortunately, struggled throughout the night, finishing with only five completions on nine attempts for a mere 37 yards. The absence of interceptions was not enough to overshadow his lack of touchdown throws, and his late throw across the middle resulted in Malik Washington taking a hard hit and being sidelined temporarily.

Speaking of Washington, the rookie wide receiver proved himself to be a stud on Friday night. Aside from the hit he endured, Washington had an outstanding performance, showcasing his versatility on offense and special teams. He had a 40-yard jet sweep, a 28-yard punt return, and a 45-yard kick return. Washington left no doubt that he deserves a spot on the coveted 53-man roster, seizing the moment and exhibiting his skillset.

Another standout player for the Dolphins was linebacker Channing Tindall. Previously limited to special teams duties in his first two seasons in the NFL, Tindall made a strong case for a roster spot and a closer look on defense. He recorded an impressive 12 tackles, six more than any other player on the team. Tindall's growth and exceptional performance did not go unnoticed, earning praise from coach Mike McDaniel.

However, not all players had a memorable night. Tight end Jody Fortson Jr. struggled to make an impact, finishing with just one reception for eight yards. In a critical moment before halftime, Fortson dropped a pass that would have resulted in a first down, instead leading to a Dolphins punt. With other tight ends stepping up and pushing for a roster spot, Fortson's chances seem slim.

Rookie running back Jaylen Wright displayed his explosiveness and agility with every touch of the ball. With limited playing time, Wright managed to accumulate 36 rushing yards on seven carries and 41 receiving yards on four receptions. The Dolphins' already formidable running back corps could benefit from incorporating Wright into their offensive strategy.

The Dolphins' offensive line depth was the only aspect that disappointed on the night. Facing the challenges posed by their opponents, the offensive line struggled to provide adequate protection, leading to missed opportunities and setbacks.

Overall, the Dolphins demonstrated glimpses of their potential and depth during their preseason victory. Backup quarterback Thompson, wide receiver Washington, linebacker Tindall, and running back Wright were standout performers, while the offensive line depth showed room for improvement. With the regular season fast approaching, the Dolphins will aim to fine-tune their preparations and build on these promising performances.
