In a recent interview with Access Hollywood, Austin Butler, known for his role as Feyd-Rautha in Dune: Part 2, revealed that he improvised a dramatic kiss with his co-star, Stellan Skarsgård, who plays Baron Vladimir Harkonnen. The unexpected moment adds intrigue to their onscreen relationship.
Butler expressed his admiration for Skarsgård, describing him as "the best" and noting that he knew his co-star would be "game for anything." When asked about the impromptu kiss, Butler enthusiastically affirmed, "Oh yeah! He's game for anything. It's always about how you're trying to affect somebody else."
In Dune: Part 2, Butler's character, Feyd-Rautha, plays a crucial role as a cunning and sadistic individual. He serves as a worthy successor to Baron Harkonnen, who seeks to maintain power and establish House Harkonnen's dominance within the galactic hierarchy. The complicated family dynamic and Feyd's belief in his own superiority lead him to envision a future where his vision for power becomes a reality.
Stellan Skarsgård spoke about his character, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, at IGN Fan Fest 2024, sharing that he is aware he is growing old and needs to find a suitable successor. Skarsgård explained that the baron's primary concern lies in making strategic moves to ensure the best outcomes for his genes, rather than the generational aspect of succession.
While the movie adapts the second half of Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi novel, Dune, the sequel, directed by Denis Villeneuve, stays loyal to the source material while making changes and omitting certain characters. Notably, the character Thufir Hawat, who schemes against the Harkonnens in the book, has been removed from the film.
Despite these alterations, Dune: Part 2 has received an overwhelmingly positive response from both critics and cinema-goers. The movie achieved an impressive debut at the U.S. box office, grossing $81.5 million. IGN described the sequel as an "arresting" and "transportive" installment, setting the stage for further developments in the Dune saga, hinting at the adaptation of Dune Messiah.
Fans can expect more surprises, intense performances, and unexpected moments as the Dune franchise continues to captivate audiences with its grand storytelling and stellar cast.
