Defending champions Argentina are set to face Colombia in a thrilling clash for the Copa America 2024 final at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. The much-anticipated football match will take place on Monday, with kick-off scheduled for 5:30 AM Indian Standard Time (IST). However, disappointingly for fans in India, there will be no live telecast or streaming available for the ARG vs COL showdown.
This historic edition of the Copa America marks only the second time in its 48 editions that the tournament has been conducted outside of South America, with the United States of America hosting the event this year. Both Uruguay, who will play against Canada in the third-place match, and Argentina share the record for the most successful teams in Copa America history, with 15 titles each.
Argentina, also known as La Albiceleste, made it to the final with an unbeaten run in the tournament. They secured their spot in the final by defeating Canada 2-0 in the semi-finals, courtesy of goals from Julian Alvarez and the legendary Lionel Messi himself. Notably, Argentina had a flawless performance in the group stage, winning all three matches without conceding a single goal. If Messi features in the final, it will mark his record-breaking seventh major final appearance in international football.
On the other hand, Colombia, led by coach Nestor Lorenzo, have shown exceptional form throughout the tournament. They boast an impressive 28-match unbeaten streak and have had some commendable victories, including defeating Uruguay in the semi-finals. Colombia's only Copa America title to date came in 2001, and they will be eager to claim a second at the expense of the defending champions.
The race for the Copa America 2024 Golden Boot is also heating up, with Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez currently leading with four goals. Martinez's compatriot, also named Lautaro Martinez, is also in contention with two goals. Colombia's Jhon Cordoba and Luis Diaz have also netted two goals each.
The history between these two South American powerhouses is intriguing. In their 43 previous encounters, Argentina has emerged victorious 26 times, while Colombia has managed to secure victories on nine occasions. Eight matches have ended in draws. In the 2021 Copa America semi-final, Argentina emerged triumphant after a thrilling penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw. Colombia's last victory against La Albiceleste came in the 2019 Copa America group stage, when they recorded a 2-0 win.
While fans in India may be disappointed about the lack of live coverage, anticipation is still high for this monumental final. As Argentina and Colombia battle it out for the prestigious Copa America title, football enthusiasts around the world will eagerly watch to see who will emerge as the champion of the Copa America 2024.
