In a recent announcement, Apple has unveiled the first release candidate (RC) versions of several forthcoming software updates. Following the release of iOS 17.4 RC last week, Apple has now made available the RC builds for visionOS 1.1, macOS 14.4, watchOS 10.4, and tvOS 17.4. Additionally, Apple has rolled out the first RC build for previous macOS versions and the HomePod software.

With visionOS 1.1, Apple is introducing enterprise support for email, contacts, and calendar on Apple Vision Pro headsets. This update means that headsets equipped with mobile device management accounts will now have the capability to access work-related email, similar to iPhones and Macs. Apple has also made improvements to Persona, a beta feature that creates a digital representation of oneself for use during video calls.

The visionOS 1.1 release notes mention the introduction of mobile device management features, enabling easier deployment, device configuration, and management for enterprises. This update also includes enhancements to Persona, the ability to delete system apps from the Home View, as well as other features, bug fixes, and security updates for the Apple Vision Pro.

Moving on to macOS Sonoma 14.4, this update brings a selection of new emoji and various other features, bug fixes, and security updates to Mac users. Users can look forward to new emoji additions including a mushroom, phoenix, lime, broken chain, and shaking heads emoji, available in the emoji keyboard. In addition, business updates in Messages for Business now allow users to receive opted-in updates such as order status, flight notifications, fraud alerts, and other transactions from trusted businesses.

For Apple Watch users, watchOS 10.4 introduces a few noteworthy features. The update includes the option to double tap to expand notifications with the "Tap to Show Full Notification" setting. Furthermore, when using Apple Pay with Confirm with AssistiveTouch, an additional passcode will be required for enhanced security, and double-clicking the side button will no longer be supported. The update also resolves issues related to false touches on the display and contact syncing problems for certain Apple Watch users.

In the HomePod software update, Apple has brought the Siri music preference experience from the iPhone. This means that Siri can now learn the user's preferred media service, eliminating the need to mention the specific media app in requests. The update also includes performance and stability improvements for HomePod users.

It is anticipated that Apple will release iOS 17.4 in compliance with the Digital Markets Act in the European Union. This software update for iPhones will introduce various features, including podcast transcription, enhancements to the Stolen Device Protection feature, and new emoji additions.

Apple continues to prioritize software updates to provide users with improved functionality, bug fixes, and security enhancements across its range of devices. Stay tuned for the latest updates and news from Apple as they strive to enhance the user experience for their vast ecosystem of products.
