AppleInsider reports that Apple is gearing up to make changes to the built-in System Settings application in macOS 15, as the company aims to address the criticism it received for the previous redesign in macOS Ventura.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Apple will be reorganizing individual settings within the System Settings app based on their priority and overall importance. Notably, the section encompassing notifications and sound settings will be moved lower in the list, while the general settings section will be placed right underneath key network settings.

The goal of these changes is to make the settings categories more intuitive and easier to find for users. While the basic design of the app is expected to remain largely the same, Apple is hoping that these reorganizational tweaks will alleviate the frustration expressed by critics of the app.

The previous redesign of System Settings aimed to achieve a unified look and feel with the Settings app on iOS and iPadOS. However, for users primarily working from the iPad, the old System Preferences app on Mac always presented challenges in locating the necessary settings. With the ongoing efforts to unify the platforms, Apple recognizes that there is still room for improvement in System Settings.

While it remains to be seen if these reorganized settings categories will be enough to fully address the app's criticism, Apple's upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will likely shed more light on the company's plans and potential additional updates for macOS 15.
