Apple has officially announced that the highly anticipated iOS 18 beta 2 will be available to developers next Monday. This release comes exactly two weeks after the initial announcement of iOS 18 at the WWDC 2024 event. The tech giant has also confirmed the addition of two exciting new features in the upcoming beta version: iPhone Mirroring and SharePlay screen sharing.
During the WWDC 2024 keynote, Apple unveiled numerous features for iOS 18, but some of them were not included in the first beta. However, these missing functionalities are expected to be gradually added throughout the beta testing phase, while others will be rolled out after the official release to the general public later this year.
Today, Apple made an important announcement that certain iOS 18 features, including Apple Intelligence, will not be available in the European Union due to the DMA (Digital Markets Act). However, Apple spokesperson, Fred Sainz, confirmed that iOS 18 beta 2 will introduce iPhone Mirroring and SharePlay screen sharing.
The iPhone Mirroring feature will enable users to mirror their iPhone's display onto their Mac. This includes the ability to interact with the iPhone, receiving notifications on the Mac, as well as effortless drag-and-drop functionality between the Mac and iPhone.
Regarding the SharePlay screen sharing feature, Apple provided further details stating, "With enhanced screen sharing capabilities, you can draw on someone's screen so they can see what they can do on theirs, or control their screen and take actions yourself."
Alongside the introduction of these new features, iOS 18 beta 2 is expected to address various bugs, tweak existing features, and incorporate further enhancements based on user feedback. The beta version will be initially released to developers on Monday, along with the second betas for iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, tvOS 18, visionOS 2, and watchOS 11. The public beta is scheduled to become available in July. Additionally, Apple has reiterated their plans to initiate beta testing for select Apple Intelligence features throughout this summer.
