### Amsterdam Imposes Strict Protest Ban Following Violent Incident Targeting Israeli Soccer Fans

THE HAGUE, Netherlands — Police detained numerous individuals on Sunday in central Amsterdam during an illegal protest that had been banned. This drastic measure followed incidents of violence directed at supporters of the Israeli soccer club, Maccabi Tel Aviv, earlier in the week.

Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema had issued a ban on all demonstrations throughout the weekend, motivated by alarming scenes of youths attacking Maccabi Tel Aviv fans. The attacks, carried out by individuals on scooters and on foot on Thursday and Friday, have been condemned as an antisemitic attack, prompting swift action from city officials.

By late Sunday afternoon, the municipality, along with Amsterdam police and the public prosecutor's office, decided to extend the prohibition on demonstrations until Thursday morning to maintain public order and safety.

In a related effort to ensure public safety, Paris police announced the deployment of 4,000 officers and 1,600 stadium staff for the upcoming France-Israel soccer match scheduled for Thursday. These measures aim to secure the stadium premises and public transportation against potential threats.

Additionally, Israel's ambassador to the Netherlands reported that 2,000 Israelis had been flown home on special flights from Amsterdam over the past few days, highlighting the gravity of the situation and the coordinated international response.
