An American tourist, Troy Phillip Bohling, from Michigan, admitted to attacking two U.S. female tourists, Eva Liu, 21, and Kelsey Chang, 22, near the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany on June 14. The fatal encounter occurred near the Marienbruecke, a bridge close to the famous castle, a popular tourist attraction in Germany. Bohling lured the women off the hiking path under false pretenses of taking romantic selfies with a better view of the castle. Unfortunately, he then allegedly pushed Liu to the ground, choked her until she lost consciousness, and raped her. Chang bravely intervened, but was pushed down a 165-foot ravine, causing a head injury. Liu tragically succumbed to her injuries after being airlifted to a hospital.

The horrific incident also revealed that Bohling had child pornography on his laptop and cellphone. Bohling faces charges of murder, rape with fatal consequences, attempted murder, and possession of child pornography. The murder charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison in Germany. The defense lawyer for Bohling called the crime "unfathomable," as the trial began and the accused acknowledged the charges. The tragic event has shocked the international community and highlighted the need for safety measures for tourists visiting popular attractions.
