Born on November 25, 1974, in Toronto, Canada, Mitchell began his acting career with his first studio film role in Disney's Miracle in 2004. He gained recognition for portraying multiple characters in Star Trek: Discovery across three seasons and also appeared in Marvel's Captain Marvel and ABC's The Astronaut Wives Club.
Mitchell's battle with ALS was first revealed in 2018. In a 2020 interview, he expressed his shock and disbelief upon receiving the diagnosis, likening it to a scene from a movie. Despite his health challenges, Mitchell continued to pursue acting and starred in The Old Man, Nancy Drew, and See, appearing in a wheelchair for his latter roles.
